New Scale, New Perspective, and a New Top 10
When I originally ranked my first 100 roller coasters, I was still early in my coaster journey creating my coast credit list. My opinions were honest to my previous experiences, but they were shaped by not having an objective format, fewer written reference points were included, and a much simpler way of scoring rides subjectively was used by me.
Since then, I’ve ridden a few more coasters and developed a far clearer understanding of what I truly value in a ride. That’s what led me to create a new, more detailed 100‑point rating scale and ultimately, to re‑rate my entire first 100 coasters using that new scale.
I did not believe that I was “fixing” my old rankings but rather ensuring that I was judging each of the rides with the same set of glasses on. It was about re‑evaluating those rides with the perspective I have now and the results, especially at the very top, were more dramatic than I expected.

A New Scale Brings New Priorities
The biggest difference with the new 100‑point scale is nuance. Instead of broad tiers, this system allows me to reward:
- Strong pacing and flow
- Consistency from start to finish
- Ride comfort and repeatability
- How well a coaster executes its intended experience

Raw stats still matter, but they’re no longer enough on their own. As a result, some coasters I once viewed as untouchable lost ground, while others I had previously undervalued rose significantly.
Nowhere is that more obvious than in my Top 10.
The New Top 10: What Changed?
Here’s how my new Top 10 compares to my original 2025 legacy rankings with Canada’s Wonderland Dominates the Top.
Leviathan Takes the Crown
The biggest headline is Leviathan rising to #1. Originally ranked 5th, Leviathan jumping four spots reflects just how much I’ve come to value sustained speed, relentless pacing, and pure ride quality. With more experience, its strengths stand out even more: no wasted moments, incredible flow, and an experience that only gets better with re‑rides. It’s the definition of a coaster that knows exactly what it is and executes it nearly without flaw.
Another major takeaway: Canada’s Wonderland now accounts for four of my Top 10 coasters.
- Leviathan (#1, +4 spots up my rankings)
- Twisted Colossus drops from #1 to #2
- Iron Rattler slips from #2 to #3
- Behemoth (#4, +4 spots up my rankings)
- Yukon Striker (#5, +9 spots up my rankings)
- GhostRider falls from #3 to #6
- AlpenFury (#10, −6 spots down my rankings because of the lack of airtime)
Former Giants, Slightly Re‑Positioned
Several coasters that once sat near the very top slid modestly, not because they’re worse, but because the new scale is more demanding.
Yukon Stryker: The most striking mover here is Yukon Striker, which surged nine spots from 14th to 5th—the biggest jump in the entire Top 10. This reflects a growing appreciation for modern B&M dive coasters when they’re executed with strong pacing, setting, and re‑rideability.
Even AlpenFury’s drop to 10th isn’t an indictment, it’s more a sign of how stacked the top of the list has become as my standards tightened.
All three remain phenomenal rides, but the re‑ratings show that consistency, comfort, and overall cohesion now matter just as much as standout moments or historical significance.
What the New Top 10 Says About My Taste
Looking at this new Top 10, a few clear themes emerge:
- I confirmed that airtime is crucial to any ride experience (floater and ejector)
- I value flow and pacing more than I thought originally
- I’m more critical of roughness, restraints, and uneven layouts than most
- I reward coasters that feel complete and are re‑rideable
- Big moments matter to me, but only if the entire ride earns them
This list isn’t about novelty or reputation anymore. It’s about which coasters I genuinely believe deliver the best overall experiences.
Final Thoughts
Re‑rating my first 100 roller coasters using my new 100‑point scale was one of the most revealing coaster projects I’ve done. It highlighted how much my perspective has matured, how my priorities have shifted, and how experience changes the way I evaluate rides, even ones I loved for years.
The original rankings still represent who I was at the time. These new ones represent who I am now. And honestly? I wouldn’t change either version.
