Artists I Still Have Time to See
Music is more than entertainment, it’s the pulse of my memories, the echo of dreams, and the heartbeat of my soul. Live music, especially, is a chance to step into the magic, to feel the energy of a crowd, and to let the first note wash over me like a wave. If regret is the teacher from my last blog, then hope is the lesson I carry forward. There are legends I’ll never see, but there are still stars shining, voices singing, and chapters waiting to be written.
The Power of Live Music
There’s something mystical about seeing an artist live. The anticipation, the lights, the crowds, each of these moments is a feast for the senses. The artists I still have a chance to see are more than performers; they are the architects of my dreams, the authors of my personal soundtrack. Their music makes me sing along, their sounds are mystic, and their lyrics speak both their truth and mine.
Why this Matters so Much to Me
For me, live shows are rarely a letdown; in fact, they’re often the highlight of my year. One of my most cherished memories is seeing Lenny Kravitz in 2019. That night, I made sure his name didn’t end up on my list of missed opportunities. In the small yet personal venue in downtown San Diego, the atmosphere was charged, every song played felt like it was written just for the audience, and I left the venue with a sense of joy and gratitude that still lingers. Experiences like that remind me why I chase live music: it’s about connection, exhilaration, and the assurance that, in those moments, I am truly living.

Why They Matter
These artists are profound performers, gifted with skills and passion that have written them a long chapter in the book of my life. Their music sings to my soul, makes me want to join in, and fills the air with something mystic and true. I don’t need a specific song or album, what matters is the experience, the energy, and the connection that only happens live.
Missed Chances and Lessons Learned
Regret is a familiar companion. I missed seeing Sting even after paying for a ticket with a seat assignment. Genesis canceled their shows during the pandemic, before I could buy a ticket. Peter Gabriel played nearby, but life’s storms kept me from grabbing a ticket and writing those memories. The cost of regret is far greater than the price of admission.
Memories Stolen by COVID-19
In 2020, we were set for “Welcome to Rockville” in Daytona Beach, Florida. The festival tickets were bought, the hotel was booked, and my flights were acquired and it felt like we were days away from experiencing the show. I could practically feel the energy of the crowd and hear the roar of guitars at Florida’s biggest rock festival, held at the legendary Daytona International Speedway. The anticipation was real: four days of hard rock, metal, and punk, surrounded by tens of thousands of fans, all ready to make memories. But then, just as the excitement peaked, the world changed. COVID-19 swept in, and the festival was cancelled without any remorse from the pandemic. All my planning, all my hopes, were put on hold and never to be revisited. It was a stark reminder that sometimes, even when you do everything right, life has other plans. Missing out on that experience still stings, but it’s also made me even more determined to seize every opportunity for live music in the future.
The Venue Doesn’t Matter, Live Does
It doesn’t matter where I see these shows, as long as they are part of my life. The experience could be at an arena, stadium, casino, fairgrounds, cruise ship, nightclub, bar, or massive festival grounds. What matters is being there in person, feeling the music, and sharing the moment. If I’m lucky, I’ll have my buddies Jim, Nes, Dave, or Nick by my side, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Surprises and Stage Magic
I don’t go to concerts expecting surprises or special collaborations, but when or if they happen, they’re most often pure magic. They are icing on a hopefully already unforgettable cake. Every show is unique, each performance a gift, and it’s those unexpected moments that linger long after the final note. I’ll never forget the time I saw Jimmy Page appear by mere chance during an Eric Clapton show in the early 2010s. I could not believe I was hearing a couple of acoustic songs from my childhood; it was such a thrill. Experiences like that only deepen my passion for live music and remind me why I chase moments to keep them off of my missed opportunities list.
Seizing the Moment
There’s a unique magic in live music that recordings never capture for me. Missing out on legends taught me to seize opportunities whenever they arise, now and into the future. I won’t let hesitation or small savings keep me from experiences, because life is short! The artists who can still sing their truths are the ones I want to log as chapters in my book. Because if music is life, then every note is a heartbeat, and I plan to live as many beats as I can.
Call to Action
Music is a deeply personal journey, and each of us has artists who have left a mark on our lives. I’ve shared my own must-see list, but now I’d love to hear from you. Which artists do you feel you absolutely need to experience live before you no longer have the chance? Share your own musical bucket list in the comments below and let’s inspire each other to seize every opportunity and make unforgettable memories while we still can. And maybe we can hit up one of the shows together.
Conclusion: A Heartbeat of Experience
When I finally see these artists live, I expect a flood of varied emotions to overcome me. These will be joy, awe, gratitude, warmth, and maybe even tears. Being a member of the crowd and awaiting the thrill of that first note will create an extraordinary connection with the artist. These moments will be the heartbeat of experience, the proof that music is life and every concert is a chance to live fully.
I imagine what it will be like to see legends like Peter Gabriel’s mystic sound, Sting’s soulful truth, Aerosmith’s charged energy, Foo Fighters’ raw power, and Genesis’ storytelling live in person. These daydreams inspire me to cherish every concert, to seek joy, and to let every note become a heartbeat. The artists I still have time to see remind me to appreciate the present, to live fully, and to make every experience count.
